Ali Faramawy, Leader of Microsoft in MEA, Promoted to Corporate Vice President Microsoft Corporation

today announced the promotion of Ali Faramawy to Corporate Vice President Microsoft Corporation and President – Microsoft Middle East & Africa. The promotion recognizes Faramawy’s strong leadership and his contributions to helping to fuel growth across the region. It also underlines the growing role of MEA as an area contributing to the overall success of Microsoft.

As corporate vice president, Ali Faramawy will continue to be responsible for Microsoft's operations in the Middle East & Africa (MEA) area. MEA is one of thirteen areas that comprise Microsoft's worldwide operations. The area represents one of Microsoft's fastest growing and most dynamic markets - and certainly its most diverse. Microsoft MEA is comprised of 32 offices representing 79 countries across three continents. Faramawy has led the region for seven years and in that time has consistently proven his ability to drive impact at the highest levels and for long term growth in the region. Ali Faramawy’s previous title was Vice President Microsoft International and President – Microsoft Middle East & Africa.
Ali’s inspirational leadership and commitment to Microsoft and the MEA region have won him the respect of colleagues, customers and partners,” said Jean-Philippe Courtois, President, Microsoft International. “He has achieved impressive results by building deep partnerships with governments, businesses and communities across MEA. I am confident Ali will continue to serve as an outstanding ambassador for Microsoft, helping people and businesses realize their full potential. "
In his role at Microsoft Faramawy has been integral in pioneering new types of partnerships that focus on market development and fostering the local software economy. This includes the company’s innovative new strategy for its broad-based black economic empowerment initiative in South Africa and in building up the partner ecosystem for MEA through systematic training of college graduates. He has been fundamental in overseeing the engagement of more than 12 million educators and students through Microsoft’s Partners in Learning program, helping individuals and communities gain access to the technology tools, skills and innovation they need to realise their full potential.

Commenting on the announcement Faramawy said, “I am very proud to be a part of Microsoft in the Middle East and Africa right now, during a time of great challenge and opportunity for the region. There is incredible potential in MEA with its young population. We will continue to focus on the acceleration of talent development, equipping them with the right tools, opportunities, knowledge and infrastructure, as a skilled and well-trained workforce is essential for economic growth and stability.”
